Established in April 2022, the College of Physics at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) traces its academic heritage to the Department of Mathematics and Mechanics founded in 1960. The college currently comprises four departments and centers: the Department of Physics, the Department of Applied Physics, the Physics Experiment Center, and the College Physics Teaching and Research Center.

The college boasts 101 faculty members, including 18 professors and 43 associate professors. The faculty includes one national teaching leader, one recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one national-level young talent, and over 20 recipients of provincial and ministerial talent awards.

In 2005, the college was granted the first-level discipline master's degree program in Physics, covering five second-level master's programs: Theoretical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Optics, and Radio Physics.

In 2012, its Condensed Matter Physics was recognized the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) key discipline. In 2018, the college was approved for a first-level doctoral program in Physics. In 2020, the MIIT Key Laboratory of Aerospace Information Materials and Physics was established. In 2021, the physics discipline entered the top 1 percent globally in ESI rankings for the first time.

In recent years, the college has undertaken more than 60 national and provincial-level projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) General Program, the NSFC Joint Fund for Large-Scale Scientific Facilities, and Major Research Plan Incubation Projects, with total research funding exceeding 40 million yuan ($5.51 million).

Over 600 academic papers of the college have been published in journals such as Science, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Physical Review Letters. It has also won an array of awards, including the second prize of the State Natural Science Award, the first and third prizes of the Natural Science Award by the Ministry of Education, and the second prize of the State Science and Technology Advancement Award.
