The College of Foreign Languages at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) traces its roots back to 1988 and was formally established as a college in May 2005.
The college currently offers two undergraduate programs: English (with specializations in international trade and civil aviation) and Japanese. The English program has been designated a national first-class undergraduate program construction site, while the Japanese program is recognized as a Jiangsu provincial first-class major construction site.
At the graduate level, the college has a first-level discipline in Foreign Languages and Literatures, with academic tracks in English Language and Literature, Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, and Japanese Language and Literature. It also offers a professional Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) degree, with specializations in English Translation and Japanese Translation. Additionally, the college houses a second-level master's discipline in Curriculum and Instruction.
The college is committed to excellence in both teaching and curriculum development. It offers one national-level high-quality shared course, one Ministry of Education-approved model course integrating ideological and political education, one Jiangsu provincial online open course, three provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, and two provincial-level key textbooks. Faculty members have received nearly 50 teaching awards at the provincial level and above, led over 10 provincial-level teaching research projects, and published more than 30 textbooks.
The college's research focuses on several specific areas, including international communication of Chinese culture, English translation of Chinese classics, neurolinguistics, comparative literature and culture, and area studies.
Since the establishment of the college, faculty members have published over 1,080 academic papers as first authors, including more than 160 articles in core journals. They have authored or co-authored over 200 scholarly monographs, edited volumes, translations, and textbooks. The college has secured 16 National Social Science Fund projects, 14 General Project of MOE (Ministry of Education) Foundation on Humanities and Social Sciences projects, and 23 Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Fund projects.
The college actively promotes international collaboration, maintaining long-standing partnerships with universities and institutions in the United States, Italy, Poland, Canada, Australia, Japan, Turkey, and other countries and regions.
