The College of Aerospace Engineering at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) is home to two nationally recognized "Double First-Class" disciplines: Aerospace Science and Technology and Mechanics.
The College offers four undergraduate programs: Aircraft Design and Engineering; Engineering Mechanics; Aircraft Environment and Life Support Engineering; and Intelligent Aircraft Technology. The first three are recognized as national first-class undergraduate programs, while Intelligent Aircraft Technology has recently been approved as an emerging major under the "Emerging Engineering Education" initiative.
The college has the authority to grant doctoral degrees in Aerospace Science and Technology, Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, and Instrument Science and Technology. Both Aerospace Science and Technology and Mechanics host postdoctoral research programs.
The college is equipped with a comprehensive research infrastructure that features two national-level innovation platforms: the State Key Laboratory of Mechanics and Control for Mechanical Structures and the National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Ultrasonic Motors. In addition, the institution houses 13 provincial and ministerial-level research innovation platforms in diverse fields such as smart materials and devices, and advanced aircraft design.
With over 400 faculty and staff members, the college comprises 10 academic departments and research institutes.
The college has cultivated a remarkable roster of alumni, including 11 academicians and leading figures in the aerospace sector. Notable graduates include Academician Wu Guanghui, Chief Designer of the C919 large passenger aircraft; Wu Ximing, Chief Designer of major helicopter projects; and Huang Lingcai, Chief Designer of the AG600 amphibious aircraft.
Since the beginning of China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), the College has made significant achievements: one Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award, 42 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards, 137 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)-funded projects, over 1,100 authorized invention patents, more than 1,900 papers indexed by Science Citation Index (SCI), and over 30 academic books published.
Students at the college have excelled in national and international competitions, winning over 710 awards at the global and national levels, and more than 1,100 at the provincial and ministerial levels since 2021.
The college actively engages in global academic exchange and cooperation. It maintains partnerships with more than 100 renowned universities and institutes, including the University of Glasgow and Airbus. In 2021, the college co-initiated the International Helicopter Education Alliance with the Vertical Flight Society (USA) and six other global institutions. In 2024, it established the International Joint Laboratory on Carbon Neutrality Design and Manufacturing in collaboration with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary.
The college launched the international academic journal Mechano Engineering and has appointed 28 international honorary professors. In recent years, it has hosted more than 60 international conferences and supported over 1,000 student and faculty exchanges abroad, including joint research, degree programs, and visiting scholar opportunities. To date, it has trained more than 350 international students worldwide.
