In 1952, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics was founded.
In 1978, NUAA was designated by the State Council as a national key university.
In 1981, NUAA was among the first batch of universities with doctorate degree award rights in China.
In 1996, NUAA was selected to be part of China's Project 211.
In 2011, NUAA was enlisted as a "Project 985" Innovative Platform for Engineering Discipline.
In 2017, NUAA became a national "Double First-Class" university.
In 2022, three disciplines at NUAA were selected into national "Double First-Class" list.
