Bernard Foing appointed honorary professor at NUAA

The appointment ceremony for Bernard Foing, executive director of the International Lunar Exploration Working Group at the European Space Agency and an academician of the International Academy of Astronautics, as an honorary professor of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) was held recently at the Minggugong Campus.

At the ceremony, Lai Jizhou, director of the International Cooperation Office at NUAA, introduced Bernard's background information, career experience, and collaborative history with the university.

Zhang Qiqian, vice-president of NUAA, presented Bernard with the honorary professor appointment letter on behalf of the university and affixed the university emblem for him.

Bernard Foing expressed sincere gratitude for the honorary appointment. He said that he would fully leverage his role as a bridge for international cooperation to develop more comprehensive and in-depth collaboration with NUAA.

Both parties are set to concentrate on joint research efforts in aerospace, promote the transformation and application of technological innovations, and collaborate to advance future space exploration development.

Bernard Foing, a figure in international aerospace with extensive influence, has achieved groundbreaking accomplishments in lunar exploration, planetary surface processes, and resource utilization.

He has worked as principal project scientist of SMART-1, the first European mission to the Moon, and holds professorships at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Florida Institute of Technology.
