The Laboratory of Non-linear Editing at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) is a "technology plus arts" integrated education platform established by the NUAA's Department of Journalism, leveraging its strengths in engineering disciplines.
Its predecessor was a laboratory launched alongside the NUAA's Broadcasting and Television Studies program as a Jiangsu provincial distinguished specialty in 2012. After evolving through multiple stages, including its upgrade to a university-level converged media laboratory in 2019, the approval of a Master's program in Journalism and Communication in 2022, and the accreditation of the university-level core teaching team —"digital-intelligence journalism fundamentals and intelligent media technology and arts teaching team" in 2024.
The laboratory focuses on the following four key tasks:
Building a digital-intelligence journalism theoretical framework to advance artificial intelligence integration in news production;
Developing and applying intelligent media technologies, optimizing drone aerial photography and other techniques by incorporating NUAA's "Sanhang (aviation, aerospace, civil aviation)" features;
Promoting interdisciplinary integration of "journalism + engineering + arts + Sanhang" and establishing courses on topics such as international communication;
Researching media dissemination mechanisms and effects, enabling students to participate in real-world projects via innovation zones.
The laboratory has already made several major achievements, including winning three teaching excellence awards at provincial and ministerial levels, as well as establishing a converged media lab and contributing to cultural relic detection laboratory development. In terms of international collaborations, it has launched joint course projects with Sophia University in Japan and the National University of Singapore.
