Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics has concluded its first Artificial Intelligence Innovative Application Contest, capping nearly six months of competition aimed at deepening the integration of AI with teaching and learning while strengthening innovation and digital literacy among students and faculty.

The contest grew out of the university's broader push to expand AI education on campus. In September 2025, the university launched an Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course for more than 5,000 first-year students. The creativity and energy shown in course assignments revealed a strong demand for a platform that could connect classroom learning with real-world application — ultimately leading to the creation of the competition.

The event attracted 298 teams and 5,448 student and faculty participants, who submitted 160 projects. After evaluation, 46 entries received awards.

Many of the projects reflected a strong interdisciplinary spirit, with participants applying what they had learned to address everyday challenges and social needs. Topics ranged from procrastination intervention and peer experience-sharing to secondhand marketplace transactions, highlighting the growing role of AI in solving practical problems and improving daily life.

The competition is expected to further advance the university's efforts to develop applied AI talent and to promote an academic environment that is more focused on innovation.
