The 1.5-metric-ton Qizhi-5 tilt-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle, developed by Qizhi Aviation Technology, a company founded by Professor Zhao Qijun of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, completed its first public flight at a test base in Chuzhou, Anhui province, on Aug 1, marking a new milestone in the commercialization of advanced aviation technologies.
During the flight demonstration, the Qizhi-5 completed a series of test maneuvers, including takeoff, hovering, agile flight and landing. The entire flight was autonomously controlled by its system, with stable performance and all key parameters meeting design requirements.
The successful test verified the reliability and advanced capabilities of the UAV's aerodynamic design, propulsion system and flight control system.
The Qizhi-5 features a maximum speed of 450 kilometers per hour, an effective payload capacity of 300 kilograms and a range of 1,900 kilometers.
Jiang Bin, president of NUAA, said that the successful maiden flight of the Qizhi-5 represents a vivid example of collaborative innovation among the university, local government and enterprise, demonstrating the potential of integrating technological research with industrial development.
